Theory:

For the thermal comfort, getting the balance point of applying and rejecting the sun light is an important process in architecture designing. And the sizes and shapes even positions of each part that inside depend on their functions.

This building connects the Square house, Block house and Round house. There was just the building frame was designed from the “3D cross shape”. Every edge of internal rooms was determined by their functions and demands. The sizes of windows were regarded as the main factor of the sun shining controlling. The two moving elements are also helping applying sunlight for the darker part of gallery and reducing afternoon direct sunlight for the lecture room.

Herzog and De Meuron：
-One architecture is able to content the cooperating and balance of more than one designing principle.
-It is possible to create high stability interior space in an unstable looking exterior.
-The orientation of an architecture can be ambiguous.

-Architectures can be regarded as living machines, so everything in the machine should has functions.
-The appearance of architectures should follows the functions.
-The exterior of architectures should look as one object.
-Horizontal & vertical or grids structure makes buildings more stable.
-Architecture should be highlighted by environment.
